Below is my idea for a new item. Ive also posted this in the Rocket League Subreddit. Please let me know what you think, and any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks!

The item would be called a Tracer.

HOW IT WORKS
:

(1) Once a Tracer is purchased, it is then meant to be traded away. EVERY trade thereafter would give the ORIGINAL OWNER an item drop. The Tracer must be traded to a NEW user each time in order for the ORIGINAL OWNER to receive an item drop. As long as these conditions are met, the ORIGINAL OWNER would continue to receive item drops. These drops would NOT include Crates, and these items would vary according to their rarity.

(2) Trading a Tracer back to ANY player who previously held it in their inventory would be allowed, however doing this would NOT qualify for an item drop.

(3) During an active trade, the Tracer would display a GREEN or RED light to indicate whether or not you would receive an item drop after making the trade.

(4) ANY user who was NOT the ORIGINAL OWNER would earn 1 item drop after trading the Tracer to someone NEW. Once the Tracer is traded again, it would no longer qualify for further item drops for that user.

(5) After EVERY TRADE, the ORIGINAL OWNER would receive an update. The ORIGINAL OWNER could then "Trace" the stats of all other players who acquired their Tracer, which would include things like Username / Country / Region / Etc.

(6) The ORIGINAL OWNERS username would be attached to the Tracer, letting other players see who purchased it and where it originated from.

(7) There would be an option to limit the stats that are made visible to all other players. - Credit: spaceboy

HOW TO OBTAIN A TRACER:

There would be 2 ways to get a Tracer.

(1) Purchase it.

(2) Trade for it with another player.

HOW MUCH WOULD A TRACER COST?

$5 Dollars. /$20 Dollars - Credit: Desirsar

HOW MANY TRACERS COULD A PLAYER PURCHASE?

5 Tracers. /1 Tracer - Credit: Desirsar

WOULD TRACERS OPEN CRATES?

No. They would be designed for players to earn item drops without grinding and to track their movement in the Rocket League trading community.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?:

(1) You have the potential of earning UNLIMITED item drops without grinding.

(2) You get acknowledgement for your monetary contributions to Rocket League.

(3) Psyonix gets paid.

(4) Psyonix improves the game.

(5) Rocket League Tournaments gain a larger prize pool.

(6) The world becomes a better pl... actually, it stays the same.

Thanks for your input AlexCuse44. Is there something in particular that you don't like? Should the item be free? Should it cost more/less? Should it have different features? I think Stats in a game like Rocket League should be used more often. Do you at least like the idea of tracking where an item goes?

To be completely honest I am not a big fan of any of the idea. Maybe they could incorporate the tracking part in certified items though. Didn't mean to sound harsh, just my opinion.

Well thought out, but stats are not very popular in RL. I wouldn't use it.

I like the idea, but it would flood the economy with way too many drops at those rates.

One per person at $20 sounds a lot more reasonable.

Its funny you say that stats are not popular, when at the same time, below your comment you include an attachment with a bunch of statistics from rocketleaguestats.com ...interesting. Seems popular to me.

I like the general idea. My first thought though, is, you may need abuse limits to prevent massive circle jerking 'clubs' with 10 thousand members, both real and smurf, who just constantly push the tracers around in a circle to get drops.

Also, you would need a new privacy option in game settings that allows players to protect their stat privacy from others, even if the stats can be found elsewhere publicly, some may prefer this. The options could be: A) no public tracking, B) Steam friends only, C) Party only, etc.

I'm a lousy player, so I don't need any additional harassment on stats, but I wouldn't mind some extra drops.

Re: Abuse limits

I tried to resolve that issue in points (2) and (3) under HOW IT WORKS. However, I think I will update this. Initially, the Green or Red lights on the Tracer (3) were to signify whether or not the trade would be granted. If it was Red, you would NOT be able to trade with the current user because they would have already held that specific Tracer in their inventory. Realistically though, you should be able to make a trade regardless. The Green/Red light system should be more of an indicator to yourself whether or not you would receive a drop after making the current trade.

I'd like to give you a more in depth analysis, but I don't have much time right now, so here's just one snack for thought:
I'm certain we'd see a bunch of threads in different networks dedicated to spreading those tracers. Those who get a hold of a few tracers, would trade them away together and not one by one. It would quickly cause a snowball effect and large repositories of tracers would be traded as a bundle. New Players would make it worse and try to join the biggest snowballs as they are less likely to die on a single player.

Paired with the other suggested features, this could put extreme pressure on the Database and knowing Psyonix's past with server issues I think they might be too paranoid to even try. :lol:


Most Problems have solutions, but you'd really have to redesign this whole concept. :?
