Xbox One FPS/Input Lag Issues, Game Unplayable

Postby thehurricane22 on Thu Feb 18, 2016 7:51 am

So my friend and I bought this on Xbox One last night because we have a lot of friends who didn't get it for PC. Well I have put in over 150+ hours in the PC version, which runs flawlessly and the Xbox One version......is unplayable. There are several things wrong with the Xbox One version inlcuding

-Game feels like it is very sluggish making it very hard to hit the ball, let alone do aerials.

-Cars feel like gravity has been turned on and just and overall sense of going slower than on PC

-Game stutters or freezes for 1/2 a second to a full second here and there

I am assuming this has to be a frame rate issue and that it is not optimized for Xbox One. Now I have seen videos of other people playing on youtube and somehow their game seems to run flawless. If anyone else has these issues and you were able to fix them please let me know how. I also disabled the weather effects/vertical sync to see if that would help and it didn't.

The first thing I attempt when i'm experiencing this kind of issue on the Xbox One, when not many others are, is to first try a hard reset of the console(Hold power button on Xbox for at least 5 secondes until it turns off). If that doesn't work, then I clear cache which is somewhere in the settings.

One thing you need to consider is, the Xbox and PS4 do not run on 60 FPS, they run on 30. So the gameplay will seem sluggish and a tad harder to hit the ball etc. I experienced this when at a friends house I thought I could show him a trick or two. It's completely different than coming from a console to the PC.

Just sit it out, give it a good go before writing it off.

I'm experiencing the same issue. Played around 300 hours on Rocket League between PS4 and PC. When playing on the Xbox One, the input lag was extremely noticeable. Turning was difficult because there'd be a split=second delay with the input. Overall the performance was very sluggish with some gameplay lag on occasion. I haven't seem too much posted about this, which I thought was strange because I don't see how the input lag will get fixed. As for the performance, maybe it's just my Xbox One. Real bummer, I'll probably just stick to the PC.

And just to clarify steblood's comment about PS4 not running at 60fps, but instead on 30fps, that's not entirely true. The game can run at 60fps but it's not steady, for certain maps, the fps will fluctuate, usually around 40-50fps. When the 60fps does kick in on PS4, I notice the smoothness immediately becuase it doesn't happen often.

In the current state of the PS4 version, it's running at a solid 60 FPS. And even before the latest patches, it was running at about 50 fps, as is the case with the current Xbox One version. Hopefully a future patch will also bring it up to 60 FPS.

Yeah as far as FPS go, people put tests up on youtube and they show the ps4 running at pretty much stable 60 and xbox running at 50 and above on certain maps. Like popnlocke said its not just playing on Xbox having a different feel, its not running how it should. Recently I have played it again on Xbox and in mid-game it will all of a sudden run like I am playing on PC then itll snap back into running shitty.

Hey guys, there will be optimizations in the future, but for now can you let me know where you experiencing the worst performance?

For me it is just on any map playing online. I have yet to create a custom match or do training, but when I am playing online against other people it is happening pretty much %95 of the time.

Is that a connection issue or FPS/Input lag?

I have both issues when I play. The game feels very sluggish, and much slower than both PC and PS4. As for the connection issues I only play on US East and average around 30-40 ping. All the while I am jumping around the ball, flipping the wrong way when I didn't even press A, and missing boost that I clearly drove over. I love this game and would play the absolute shit out of the Xbox version, if I could ever play without wanting to rip my controller in half.

I dont think I am having any connection issues, but there is an overwhelming amount of fps/input lag. I just played 3v3 on coliseum today and i would venture I was getting 20fps at best. It was horrendous lol.

I don't generally get connection issues but the input lag does indeed make the game unplayable. I can use the same XB1 controller plugged into my PC and it's fine and then connect it both wirelessly and via a cable to the XB1 and the input lag is extremely noticeable. How this ever got approved for release is totally beyond my comprehension.

If it's the case of input lag then one thing you can try out is setting your TV to game mode, if that doesn't make a difference you can also turn off Vsync. As I've mentioned there will be improvements to performance in future updates, just as we have continued to optimize the PC and PS4 versions.

Re: Xbox One FPS/Input Lag Issues, Game Unplayable

Postby zR0Grav on Mon Feb 29, 2016 6:42 pm

I currently have almost 1200 games played on PC and about 250 played on XBone. While I will attest to everything that has been said prior about the play of the game, I would like to add a few things. I have played mostly in parties on xbox live and about half on PC. I have noticed that friends with not as good PC's seem to get a sort of game/network lag more often when we are in skype or any other voice app and have to turn graphics down while running skype, and with the Xbox I have noticed that I tend to get more lag in games when I am in a group or party as opposed to PC which never drops and if it does, a simple router/modem 30 second power cycle seems to do the trick. My PC runs on i5 4670k OC at 4.2 ghz, 24 gb RAM @ 2133, Asus 87-A, and GTX 770 so it would really have to put a major strain on my system to push it below 60 FPS. Another thing I have noticed, is while the lag is relatively similar for everyone in the game, it does seem to have different effects on people at different times and it really throws of the flow of games when people who normally never miss are missing 4/10 times they attack the ball and it throws teammates positioning off. It feels like half the games are about who can overcome the lag and not get caught at the worse time. Also, I have been playing almost specifically ranked on both systems since the release on Xbone and my ping very rarely goes into the yellow, but that can probably be that I am in Central and my connection is really server dependent and that through patterns, I can almost certainly say that it shows no relation to my ping and I have yet to have a teammate disconnect due to network issues and very rarely have a teammate not make it into the game. I have played all of the cars on Xbox in season and live and I noticed that I had 0 problems with the game when playing with bots but did about 60% of the games which is about how often I have noticeable lag on the Xbox. I also did not notice any difference based on cars with lag issues either. There have been a lot of weird ball deflections in xbox that I have never seen before either, so I don't know if that is something different either. Almost all of them show something different in relation to where people were on my screen and in the replay. I play very soft and do a lot of watching the other players and always paying attention, so I doubt it's due to my lack of awareness either as the glitches or pops are consistent. The biggest thing I have noticed is when this is going on is that everyone's hit box is somewhere between half a length to a full length of the car ahead of them in live play but on replay it isn't and every now and then I will be going for a ball reading a player to hit it and it seems that their hits are about a half a second sooner than PC and I have to adjust my timing for blocks and interference's on disrupting solid shots. Though I do not play both systems on the same monitor, it would be possible to do it and both of my monitors are approximately 6 ft from each other in the same room so I have a pretty close comparison when looking at them running at the same time. The biggest difference I feel is that on PC you can make adjustments to your graphics to reduce the lag, but on xbox there is no sure way of adjusting. Something I have noticed on Xbox in comparison to PC is that everything seems to be running brighter and with more reflections on the ball or walls and making the turf a lot brighter. I hope all of this information provided can some how help you guys with your optimization and if you have any more questions I'll be glad to answer. Everything I have stated is just my observation and not necessarily a fact, just more information to maybe find the fix. Another thing I have noticed is by changing FOV it reduces some "lag" but obviously throws off depth perception still making it hard.

Vsync not enabled
MAX FPS 90

Sometimes you can't go into details before you're sure that you have a fix.

As Jerad mentioned in this post: viewtopic.php?p=267421#p267421
There has been resolution to a specific erorr. Let me know if it helps with the rubberbanding at least.

In terms of general game performance, there are optimizations to come as we move XB1 to the same build as PS4/PC

Xbox One Lag/FPS Issues

Postby Kuse on Mon Mar 14, 2016 9:45 am

First and Foremost, I have the PS4 version of Rocket League and that game runs like butter on my current Network setup. For some reason or another with the Xbox One version I am getting severe random lag spikes/ rubber banding during matches. I have checked the network configurations and it's all green, Open Nat, 100 percent WiFi connection, 72 ping, No Packet Loss. I have tried hard resets to no avail as well. 30 to 40 mbps down and 10 up.

My theory is that maybe matches with people who are connecting to US Servers from overseas is making the game unstable? It's just at theory but at times it makes the game downright unplayable at times. Just figured I would report it here and see if you guys can look into it.
