#PlayStation2013/PlayStation 4 announcement discussion

Sony seems to have begun a countdown for "the future" with their "#PlayStation2013" thing. What do you guys think it is? I'd say anything other than the PS4/Orbis would be stupid on Sony's part, since that's what everybody's waiting for, and there's also been a lot of talk about the PS4's leaked specs et cetera. I guess we just need to wait till February 20 to find out...

Il put all my money (Bar an emergency £7.99) That sarpbc 2 comes out as a release title for the ps4 using the excellent marketing strategy of being one of the only 3 games available.

I may be the only one that thinks this, but I think Sony should allow Microsoft to announce their new next gen console first, just as they did with the 360. And I also don't see the need for a new console as of yet, developers still haven't found use for all the power that the PS3 has, so why would they need a more powerful system to deal with.

After a quick Google I realized that the PS3 will turn seven, and on the sixth year of the PS2, the PS3 was announced. So is it a year overdue? I don't think so. But to stay atop the market I guess it would make sense to release a new console by Christmas of this year.

Well actually Naughty Dog said they pretty much maxed out the system back with Uncharted 2 a few years ago. Likewise The Last of Us is said to use 'every last drop of PS3 power'. So, yeah I think it's a great time for the PS4 to be announced, especially as releasing a year later than the 360 seriously damaged the potential PS3 sales.

Anyway, the PS3 really isn't that powerful compared to the average PC nowadays.

And I didn't do all my research Beans, so you're probably right. I think I remember hearing that the PS3 still had some untapped muscle back in 2009. I guess things have changed in four years lol.
