Oh, and before you all jump on the "Kony 2012" bandwagon, perhaps you should do some research on Uganda's situation, Joseph Kony, the Kony 2012 organisation and what REALLY happens.

Right now, I really don't know who's side I'm on. I'm not denying that Joseph Kony is a massive bellend, and I'm not denying that the charity are full of generous and inspiring people, but perhaps their methods are little misguided.

Now, I honestly have no idea whether I should support Kony 2012 or not, because of the amount of things i've read both for and against them, but all I know is that I shouldn't jump straight to every idea I am told because they made a pretty convicing video.

I'm not going to lie, when I first watched the video today, I was all "F**k that son of a b***h! Kony 2012 FTW!" But of course I was then like...maybe I should read into this all a bit more.

So I did.

Most of what I'd say would've just been other people's words and because I honestly don't understand very much about the situation, and frankly no matter how much research I do, I'd still be indifferent. But I highly recommend you guys read these links:

Now I'm not saying you should all go say how bad the charity are and that they're blah blah blah. Promoting the amount of torment that goes on around countries such as Uganda is a great idea. Raising awareness is fantastic. But not every charity have perfect solutions. And just because SOMETHING has come up, it doesn't mean that it's the only solution, and that it is the best solution. Sometimes doing nothing is better than doing anything at all.

Just read the links, both for and against Kony 2012, and make your own judgements.

Because unfortunately that's how the media works. I mean, how many other people can you name like this? I can only name Kony, because I watched a video about him. I didn't have a clue who he was before today. You could've told me he was a priest in Italy and I would've probably believed you.

So, because most people only know this guy, they see an evil man on their screen and they go "Man I wish he was dead". Whereas a lot of people haven't come face to face with the millions of other people around the world facing equal abuse, so they don't really think about it for too long and act upon it.

And you're right, if he was stopped, nothing would really change. If he was killed/imprisoned, what's to say that another guy won't just step up and take charge anyway? It's the Osama Bin Laden thing all over again.

Personally what Ryan just said was really interesting. I'd never considered it, the things like someone else just taking over had crossed my mind, but not the other things.

I think Ryan's touched on it but why isn't there such recognition and a drive for other causes? More children will die of poverty than just through what one sick man is doing. I did think the video was great though, convincing and kind of happy to see the effect we as humans can have. I found that fascinating, as well as how society has developed and changed over the years. I think a few things have screwed society up but it was awesome to see so many people all behind the one cause, despite it maybe not being the most worthwile when put into perspective with other world issues.

Also like it has been said already, he isn't the only one to do it. There's tons of child prostitutes and child rape in countries like Thailand, which not only does the Western World do nothing, but lots of freaks actually travel there specifically for that purpose.

They ran a study on children who have escaped the LRA, and 8% of the kids had to kill their parents. The video makes it seem like this applies to all of them, but the movie is shit. Why should I give donate to a foundation who's goal is to keep US advisors in a country? Has your government ever suggested that they need to be pulled out? Do you realize that advising the Ugandan army on fighting a man who hasn't been in Uganda since 2006 is kind of......stupid?

The Invisible Children spends almost the same amount of money on travel expenses and salaries as they donate to Uganda. Keep in mind the Ugandan government is corrupt and the army itself is accused of raping and killing women and children. So where does this charity money go to?

To be fair, he is number one on the list of international bad guys to catch and has been since the list started. So it isn't exactly that random a choice.

I remember watching a documentary on three young kids who went to Somalia, without a clue of what they were doing. They just went down there for a college trip (something like that), and eventually managed to find the story of kids and families suffering from a lack of food, disease, and war time. To me it was a pretty good documentary.

This however, just looks like smoke and mirrors. I like the idea, but I'll pass. This vid has been getting views by the dozen though, I saw it on CBS world news today...but they also mentioned about Kony's critiques as well, like the one's ryan posted.
